The Red Devils Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
Securing the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
