The network's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Major Commitment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two more seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."

A President's Endorsement

The official statement also included praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who found the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you supported this new show, championed for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Wholesome Alternative

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about observing this endearing family go about their everyday routines.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its long-running sarcastic tone. He linked this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
