The original creators of the well-known frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has announced that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the launch of a new Palestine-themed ice cream flavor.

The entrepreneur, that established the business with his partner, revealed that he will personally create this new product within a personal collection showcasing causes Ben & Jerry's has been prevented from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Founders versus Parent Company

The recent development intensifies the ongoing tension between the internationally recognized ice cream maker and Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods giant that acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

Both founders maintain how the parent company along with its ice cream arm Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Flavor as a Symbol of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated via an Instagram video that he is creating an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, requesting consumer ideas for the product's name and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine while demanding repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has become a symbol of support for Palestinians because of its coloration, which match the colors in Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Social Engagement and Current Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in areas occupied by Israel, resulting in Unilever transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thus allowing continued sales within disputed territories.

This upcoming dessert series is being developed under Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist ice cream brand which was first established several years back to support ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Back".

Management Changes plus Upcoming Intentions

The founder stated how he will develop other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns which the company was silenced from speaking about openly due to corporate restrictions.

This development comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, after many years with the organization, mentioning concerns regarding how its independence had been undermined after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

At that time, Ben Cohen commented that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence ensuring that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles that established its foundation and has maintained for decades," he told media outlets.
